Chapter 15

At Louisville General, Janice Hartwell opens her eyes. She knows she's in a hospital. She remembers going there to be treated for Cystic Fibrosis. The doctors had purposely put her into a drug-induced coma for her own good. The nurses called the doctor immediately. The doctor arrived minutes later.

"Hello Janice. How do you feel?" asked Doctor Shippenstall.

"I feel great. I feel better than I've felt in a long time. I can breathe normally now. I haven't coughed since I woke up. Whatever you did must have cured me," said Janice.

"We didn't actually do anything related to your Cystic Fibrosis. You just happened to wake up from your coma unexpectedly. We'll run some tests and keep you under observation for a while."

"Well, I don't know what to tell you but I feel great. I'm not wheezing. I'm not coughing. I'm breathing just as good as can be."

The doctor tests her the next day. Her Cystic Fibrosis is gone. It's almost as though she never had it. Her family is there visiting when he gives her the good news.

"I've got great news. Your Cystic Fibrosis is gone. I'm gonna sign you up for discharge tomorrow morning. I do have a couple questions, if you don't mind."

"Sure doc. Shoot."

"Do you remember anything from while you were in your coma? Did you dream? Did you interact with anyone? Did you have any dreams or nightmares? Does the name Mary ring a bell?"

"No. I don't remember anything. When I came out of the coma, it felt like I just woke up from a good night's sleep."

"I have a big favor to ask. If you do remember anything, would you please let me know? I'm interested in knowing if you start recalling any dreams or anything that may have happened while you were in your coma. Could you do that?"

"Sure. I'll be glad to. I'm so excited. Now, I can finally move to Myrtle Beach."

The next morning, Janice gets ready to leave the ICU. As she walks by one of the rooms, she recognizes Mary. She immediately remembers a dream where she was tending bar and met Mary. She stops at the nurse's station.

"Excuse me nurse. Is that girl's name Mary Simpson?"

"Why yes. Yes it is. How did you know?"

"When I saw her face, I remembered a dream I had while in my coma. I was tending bar and Mary came in and had a Pepsi. Could you please let the doctor know? He said he wanted to know if I remembered anything or any of my dreams while I was in the coma," said Janice.

"I'll be glad to inform him for you. Take care Janice," said the nurse.

"Thanks. I'm going to."

Janice left the hospital and within three days, she relocated to Myrtle Beach. She found a job as a bartender and spent her days on the beach tanning and reading love stories and novels. She didn't have any more memories from her coma. Her goals and dreams were coming true. Within six months, she landed a job at one of the top bars in Myrtle: The Tidal Wave.
